Yellowstone Tales – Part 1

My Brother the Wolf*

 My brother the wolf
sings his music under clear stars
a chant I recognize but cannot name
haunts me

 My brother the wolf
hears the fear and longing
in our hearts
sees confusion at a glance

My brother the wolf,
no prodigal child,
will not be tamed,
clings with ferocity to ways wild

 My brother the wolf
lies quietly at a distance
waiting patiently for me to acknowledge
our ancient ties

*….my brother the wolf, my sister the sea…
my lover the moon….

  2. oh I loved the video.

Thank you so much, Bluebee. There is something intense there – a wonder and curiosity that’s shared between the species, a hint of prior knowledge, as you say. Memory imprinted in the DNA – I think so, too.

Hello Wath and thank you! There is lots more video, but no one will nominate me for any videography awards. Still, it gives a sense of what it was like.

  6. Monica says:

Interesting, Sandy – I didn’t know wolves were in Oklahoma that recently. Perhaps one day again. Love your new blog!

Dear Pen, Thank you so much for your kind comments! There’s more video to come – although you will have to bear with me on the quality. At least there’s a wolf on it!

“a chant I recognize but cannot name” – isn’t it funny that this is so – as if it’s in the DNA. Such a haunting sound, the cry of the wolf, like the sounds of the whale, and how wonderful to hear it in the wild, Monica. Beautiful poem.

Just sitting here Monica, playing the video, absorbing the atmospheric scenery and staring in wonder as I look at our brother The Wolf, … such descriptive words too, saying it all and in my mind I can hear the haunting howl of the wolf in response. I look forward to part two, my friend. and many, many thanks for sharing your amazing experience… xPenx
