I see you as someone who can stand up squarely for herself. And I get the use of your full name when your mum means business – I did that with my son, too, when he was younger.

I agree that honouring the name or names as preferred by each individual is a sign of respect. Name-calling wouldn’t have the power that it does otherwise. I have many nicknames bestowed on me by friends and family which I’ve never minded, but also was also called names as a young person by bullies, and I objected to those. And if my mum calls me Karen instead of Kari, then I know I’m in trouble!
