Happy New Year!/Turn of the Seasons

….That which has been done is that which shall be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun….
….And I applied my heart to seek…wisdom….
That which is crooked cannot be made straight,
and that which is wanting cannot be numbered….
….And I applied my heart to know wisdom….
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven….
Ecclesiastes

TURN OF THE SEASONS

The seasons turn,
summer to autumn, fall to winter
and the joyous renewal of spring.
On this earth, there has been time
for love and hate,
war and peace.
But the seasons are changing
in a new way.
On this beautiful planet at risk,
there is no more time for hate,
no time for war.
The challenge is too great
to waste energy and talent
in the luxury of destruction.

As the seasons turn,
let us use our strength and abilities
to build up,
to heal,
to plant,
to create something new under the sun,
to straighten what is crooked,
number what is wanting,
seek wisdom from the heart
and embrace a way of being
in harmony with each other
and with our only home.

Yes, Monica – I have started the New Year feeling very jaded with human nature (my own included), but your poem is a reminder that we cannot just throw up our hands and withdraw from it all and should make an effort to channel our energy into renewal, creativity, healing and innovation where we can.

  7. Monica says:

Thank you for such beautiful and special comments and for being your beautiful, special selves!

  8. Chloe says:

Such wisdom in your words Monica – we should not be caught up in destruction, but rather be building up our only home (the world) and its inhabitants. Peace and happiness can be found, but it’s gonna take a universal change of mindset. Like Pen said, living in harmony seems to be the way forward, so too does treating others as we would want to be treated ourselves. All of which are easier said than done but things that we could well afford to at least strive for.

Hope you have a great day xx

    Lovely, lovely blog. Monica,
and yes, I do hope we all become wiser in our thoughts for what’s best for the Planet and not selfishly for ourselves. Living in harmony sounds the way forward, listen to the song of life’s cycle and take heed before it’s too late for us…
    have a wonderful 2011, my friend… xPenx

  10. A beautiful introduction to our new year dear friend , if all mankind could only read your words and understand the meaning therein , we would find universal happiness and peace with harmony between all races , sadly not all peoples hearts are open or eyes are open to seeing the truth within your words , may the dreams of enlightenment be fulfilled in our lifetime and universal peace reign.

    Happy New Year Monica!
We enjoyed our short evening with you, hopefully a tradition in the making.
Your work reflects your untethered spirit as well as your connection to the natural world. An inspiration.
